PALM HARBOR, Fla. - PALM HARBOR, Fla. - It should be easier these days to find a place to park at the Palm Harbor Library.
It has added 30 spaces to its grass-covered parking lot.
Last year, when the county made improvements to Nebraska Avenue and Riviere Road, it diverted water from a retention pond on the library's property to another location, said Debbie Phillips, library spokeswoman. That pond has now been filled in and covered with grass to create the parking area.
Parking has always been at a premium for library patrons.
For a building of 26,000 square feet, county development standards and other similar practices suggest a minimum of 130 spaces, she said. Prior to this expansion, however, the library had only 98 spaces.
When the library gains access to Penny for Pinellas sales tax revenue, it will reconfigure and blacktop the parking lot to maximize the available space.
