OLDSMAR, Fla. - OLDSMAR, Fla. - Once a year, along with the arrival of Santa, youngsters in this town await another special seasonal occurrence– snow.

Actually they don gloves and mittens to sled down the city's snowy-cold ice mountain, said Holly LiBaire, communications coordinator.

Sledding with holiday abandon will take place at R.E. Olds Park, 250 Shore Drive E., during Christmas Wonderland. It will be held Friday, Dec. 7, 6 - 9 p.m.

There will be a host of family festivities, including pony rides, inflatables, photos with Santa, food concessions, holiday music by Hammerhead Dulcimers and Miss Suda's Dancers performing "The Grinch."

Admission is free. Spectators are advised to bring their own seats or blankets to the park.

Christmas Wonderland is sponsored by the city of Oldsmar, TECO, Oldsmar Flea Market, TBE Group, Tampa Bay Downs, Wal-Mart, JES Properties, Tampa Bay Wholesale Tire & Auto, BELAC LLC and Bright House Networks.

On Saturday, Dec. 1, 5 - 8 p.m., residents can drop in at Oldsmar Fire Rescue's annual open house with Santa. The fire station is at 225 Pine Avenue N.

Everyone is invited to visit Santa, decorate a tree, sample refreshments, sit in an antique firetruck and enjoy a hayride with local firefighters.

Youngsters can write a letter to Santa, drop it off in the specially marked, big, red painted mailbox outside City Hall, 100 State St. and receive Santa's return letter. The box is dedicated to mail traveling to the North Pole.

No stamps are required to get the letters to the Jolly Old Elf. The child's name and address are needed on the letter.

Letters to Santa must be dropped into the mailbox between Nov. 26 and Dec. 20.

Santa will be in town Dec. 15, starting at 9 a.m. for a breakfast visit with Santa and photo at the Chick-fil-A at 3740 Tampa Road.

A child's ticket is $6 in advance or $8 at the Chick-fil-A door. The ticket includes breakfast, a photo with Santa and a goody bag. Adults need a $2 admission ticket and may also purchase breakfast.

Tickets are available at city of Oldsmar recreation centers. Contact Oldsmar Leisure Services at 813-749-1260 for additional information.
