SAFETY HARBOR, Fla. - SAFETY HARBOR, Fla. - The City Commission has approved a variety of festivals for next year's municipal special events calendar.
These special events have proven popular with residents and visitors alike and have shown steady growth, said Joe Cooper, special events coordinator. Attendance continues to increase from previous years, he said.
The 2008 calendar includes a mix of city-sponsored events along with those produced by other organizations.
These events ensure Safety Harbor "will continue to be a destination for lifestyle-oriented activities," Cooper said.
A March of Dimes-sponsored run will be added to the events calendar in 2008, Cooper said.
In addition, the city special-events staff is continuing to improve on existing events "to keep them current with local trends and make them safe for all event-goers," he said.
For example, events scheduled for next year include continuation of the 3rd Friday Music Series. Last year's plans to improve this year-long event were successful, Cooper said.
Other events on the 2008 special events calendar are:
• Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, January.
• Touch A Truck in February.
• Seafood Festival, March.
• Bloom and Garden Festival; Easter Celebration; and Kayak Festival, April
• May Days Celebration, May.
• Independence Day Celebration, July.
• Harbor Sounds Music Festival; Harborween, October.
• Wine Festival, November.
Other smaller events were also approved for the calendar.
