SAFETY HARBOR, Fla. - SAFETY HARBOR, Fla. - An exhibition of stylish Cadillacs and fine boats has been added to this year's Safety Harbor Wine Festival, taking place this evening on Main Street.
The wine festival, now in its sixth year, has become the city's largest event, attracting upwards of 15,000 and taking a year to plan, said Joe Cooper, special events coordinator.
The festival, which raises funds for local charities, will be Nov. 3, from 5 - 11 p.m.
This year, two of the major sponsors, Dimmitt Cadillac and Ozona Shores Marine, will display vehicles and boats on Main Street. Boats and Cadillacs on Main Street will make the event look different, Cooper said.
During the wine festival, Main Street will be transformed into a pedestrian walkway between Bayshore Boulevard and Eighth Avenue. This will allow spectators to sample domestic and imported wines at six different tents, Cooper said.
Wine will be sold for $3 to $5 per standard-size glass, he said. No small sample cups will be used.
Food booths featuring specialties from several area restaurants will be available. Eateries such as Cafe 13, Bonefish Grill and Thirsty Marlin will be represented.
The Palm Harbor-based Thirsty Marlin recently announced plans to open a restaurant in downtown Safety Harbor.
The festival also offers a chance to discover and savor the many downtown restaurants, Cooper said.
In the past, local food establishments have done well during the event, he noted.
During the festival, about 60 vendor booths selling a wide variety of arts, crafts and other items will also line the street.
Setting the mood will be the sound of jazz, rock and blues on four stages scattered throughout the event.
Groups scheduled to perform include T. Foxx, Angel for Blues, Vibe, Low Frequency Shamun and David Bearce.
