DUNEDIN, Fla. - DUNEDIN, Fla. - More than 230 of the country's most creative artists will fill Highlander Park this weekend during the Junior League of Clearwater-Dunedin's 44th annual Art Harvest.

Painters, glassmakers, mixed-media artists, woodworkers, jewelry makers, sculptors, metal workers and other artists who express themselves in a variety of fields will display their creations in "the Tampa Bay area's largest fall festival."

The event, organized by the Junior League of Clearwater-Dunedin, will be held for the 44th time this Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 3 and 4, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. both days.

Tamara Black, one of the chairwomen of the event, said this year's Art Harvest will feature the largest number of artists the show ever had. There will be exhibitors in 13 categories vying for a total of $25,000 in prizes.

The Junior League expects this year's Art Harvest to raise at least $75,000, Black said. The service group will use the art show proceeds to fund various community projects, she said.

Admission is free, but parking in Highlander Park is $4.

Food vendors will also be available in the park.

The reconfiguration of Highlander Park, including the reconstructed Dunedin Community Center, provided more space for artist booths.

This year more than 300 artists applied to exhibit. Applications come from around the country and as far away as England.

Art Harvest '07 features a wide variety of pieces in several mediums, ranging in price from affordable to the more expensive, Black said.

There will be artistic activities for youngsters and plenty to eat and drink at the show.

Erin Henson, a Junior League volunteer who has attended Art Harvest since she was a youngster, remembers when it was a much smaller event with artists clustered around the pond in Highlander Park.

Since November is Henson's birth month, each year her dad would buy her a special piece of jewelry, she recalled.

She now enjoys working at the much larger Art Harvest and still hopes to find a nice piece of jewelry, Henson said. The event has art for every taste and pocketbook, she said.
